An Upcoming Adventure

Sydney 1 Jan 2014

Picture our Sydney friends sent us of this year’s New Year’s celebration

Soon Bob and I will be embarking on what promises to the trip of a lifetime (to date anyway). We will be spending 9+ weeks in New Zealand and Australia! It all began when we started our bucket list two years ago–the top of Bob’s dreams was spending New Year’s Eve in Sydney, Australia. We decided that this would be his retirement trip, as he was in the planning stages of that life change (he retired on March 31 this year).

Our first decision was to visit New Zealand also — that made good sense for us, considering the time and cost involved in traveling to the other side of the planet. Then we spent most of 2013 in researching and planning our trip. The itinerary the followed included flying to Auckland on Air New Zealand, and spend ten days there. Following that, we would fly to Sydney to catch up with some friends, spending Christmas and New Years with them.

After New Years, we will take a train to Melbourne for another ten days, followed by flying to the Gold Coast for a timeshare week in Surfer’s Paradise. Then it’s back to Sydney to board an 11-day Celebrity Cruise that would bring us to Tasmania then around New Zealand. Upon the cruise’s debarkation in Auckland, we will spend four days in the Bay of Islands beach resort community of Pahia before returning home. As I said, it will be the trip of a lifetime!

As in my previous blogs of our trips to Greece, I plan to make regular journal entries and include lots of pictures. Stay posted!
