Passing through the Wachau Valley is said to the the highlight of any cruise on the Danube. Only about 30 miles long, it is a combination of rugged wildness and picturesque vineyards set beneath steep hillsides. Castle ruins, churches, and quaint villages complete the charming picture.
Krems is at the endpoint of the Wachau region. A historic city with importance in the local wine business, it has a quaint village that was a pleasure to walk though. We found a cute Christmas market at which I bought a lovely, homemade decoration for our front door.
